With a career spanning decades, Yvonne Chaka Chaka continues to inspire and entertain. Her music remains a source of joy, and her commitment to making a difference endures. As she aptly states,

Born Yvonne Ntombizodwa Machaka in 1965 in Dobsonville, Soweto, Yvonne Chaka Chaka is the second eldest of three daughters. She pursued studies in Adult Education and Local Government Management at the University of South Africa, later complementing her education with a Diploma in Speech and Drama from Trinity College, London.

Emerging as a pioneering figure, Yvonne Chaka Chaka became the first Black child to appear on South African television in 1981. Her career took a significant leap in 1985 when discovered by Phil Hollis, leading to the moniker “Princess of Africa.” Beyond music, she ventured into television, radio, and film, showcasing her multifaceted talents.

Renowned for her electrifying performances and original style, Chaka Chaka has captivated audiences worldwide. Sharing stages with global luminaries like Nelson Mandela, Queen Elizabeth II, and Michael Jackson solidified her status as a world-class entertainer.

Driven by compassion, she transformed personal tragedy into a powerful force for good. As a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and founder of the Princess of Africa Foundation, she has championed health, education, and women’s empowerment across Africa. Her dedication to social justice has earned her numerous accolades, including the World Economic Forum Crystal Award and BET’s International Global Good Power Award.

Yvonne Chaka Chaka has released a prolific discography spanning several decades, showcasing her versatility as a singer and songwriter. Her music catalog features a diverse range of styles, from traditional African rhythms to contemporary pop and R&B.
